". . . Goumenissa . . ."

Built at the foot of the mountain Paiko, Goumenissa the capital of the province Paionia which belongs to the prefecture Kilkis with a population of 4500 inhabitants is only 75 km  far from Thessaloniki.

This large-village was built during the first years of Turkish domination round the strong monastery of the Virgin Mary.

The area developed into a significant vinicultural center. From 1922 to 1925 a respectful number of refugees from Eastern Romilia and Pontos was resettled in Goumenissa and enriched the indigenous traditional with new elements.

Today Goumenissa, apart from its famous wines, is know for its self-taught musicians who are called "The Halkina of Goumenissa".
